Longtime local resident Lorraine Lucille Brooks, 94, was born Dec. 12, 1922, in Lithonia, Ga.,
and passed away Aug. 14, 2017, in Longview.
Lorraine was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. Her life revolved around her family and faith. In 1940 she married Edgar "Dunk" Brooks in Roland, Okla. They moved to the local area in 1950. Edgar preceded Lorraine in death on June 25, 2006.
Lorraine enjoyed playing cards, camping, and fishing. Christmas was her favorite holiday and she had a special bond with Santa. She loved children of all ages — and they adored her. Lorraine relished baby-sitting the grandchildren and volunteering at day cares at Hot Heads and Aerobics with a Smile. "Mammie" was a fantastic organizer, especially when a garage sale was planned. Her sales were legendary.
She is survived by two daughters, Bernice Davies of Longview and Diana Woodward (Rick) of Kelso, Washington; a son, E. Duane Brooks (Bill Dombrovski) of Portland, Oregon; five grandchildren, Reed Davies, Laura Davies, Brooks Toney and Ricky Woodward, all of Longview, Washington and Dodi Davies of Portland, Oregon; and five great-grandchildren, C.J. Davies in California, Andrew Davies stationed in Virginia (Navy), Madison Farnsworth of Vancouver, Washington, and Sara Anonby and Broden Toney, both of Longview, Washington; and two sisters, Ruth Gross of Longview, Washington and Lee Chaffin of Ventura, California.
In addition to her husband, Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, William S. and Edith Ora (Pyles) Dodson;
and two brothers, Jack and Vernon Athey.
Lorraine will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband Edgar at Roland City Cemetery in Roland, Oklahoma with a graveside service on Friday, August 25, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral home of Muldrow, Oklahoma.
