April (Scantling) Shumate

Graveside Service for April Shumate, 77, of Sallisaw, Oklahoma will be at 1:00 PM on Thursday, March 12, 2020 at Akins Cemetery in Sallisaw, Oklahoma under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.

She was born on April 18, 1942 in Heavener, Oklahoma to Mary Jewel (Cartwright) Scantling and Omer Basil Scantling and passed away on March 5, 2020 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. She was married to Bob Shumate on January 17, 1959 in Heavener, Oklahoma. He preceded in her in death on July 15, 2013. She was a sales clerk for Iron Post Smokeshop for 23 years and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors are:

3 daughters and 1 son-in-law: Renee and Brent Vanzant of Gaston, OR, Annette “Eppler” Teague of Hanson, OK and Janna Williams of VanCouver, WA;

1 son and daughter-in-law: Bobby and Susie Shumate of Hanson, OK;

8 grandchildren: Amber, Trent and Emily, C.J., Jacynda, Madison, Wyatt, Kadyn and Aaron, and Aughist;

3 great-grandchildren: Kiera, Jaxon and Landon;

several other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and brothers, Chuck, Bill, Vernon, Bob, Bat, Jimmy, Donald Jack and the Scantling Twins.

Active Pallbearers will be Gene Meadows, Vernon Scantling, Clifford Eppler, C.J. Eppler, Wyatt Shumate and Ray Jiles.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Brent Vanzant, Trent Vanzant and Trenton Lattimore.

Viewing will be 3 – 8 PM Tuesday and 10 AM – 8 PM Wednesday at Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw, OK where the family will greet 6 – 8 PM Wednesday.
