Memorial Services for Betty Faye Compton Lenington, 63, of Sallisaw, Oklahoma will be at 10:30 AM on May 18, 2019 at Apostolic Faith Church in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. Cremation is under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.

Betty Faye (Compton) Lenington was born July 30, 1955 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma to Walter Compton and Geneva (Looper) Compton. She married John Lenington June 17, 1978 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. She passed this life May 8, 2019 at Sequoyah Memorial Hospital in Sallisaw, Oklahoma after an exacerbation of Multiple Sclerosis.

Mrs. Lenington graduated from Northeastern State University in 1977 with a BA in Education. She taught English, Speech and Drama at Sallisaw High School from 1977 to 1984 when she returned to graduate school. She graduated in 1985 with a MA in English and Southwest Literature from New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, New Mexico. Fall of 1985 she was accepted into the doctoral program at the University of Missouri-Columbia. She completed the doctoral course work in 1988 but was unable to complete the doctoral degree because of her declining health. She, nonetheless, taught 2 years at Harvard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas and 1 year at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, Arkansas.

She is survived by her husband of 40 years, her mother, her sister, Merlyn Wickett of Muldrow, OK, and her brothers, Vernon Compton of Sallisaw, OK and Leon Compton and his wife, Dena, of Norman, OK. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews: Kenneth Green of Muldrow, OK, Sarah Coleman of Muldrow, OK, William Compton of Eldon, MO, Eric Compton of Jefferson City, MO, Laura Compton-Ulloya of Washington, DC, Christopher Compton of Broken Arrow, OK, Sage Sheldon of Ft. Collins, CO, Camielle Chou of Irvine, CA, Trina Owens of Sallisaw, OK, Jeff Owens of Sallisaw, OK and Josie Owens of Sallisaw, OK. Josie was one of the many blessings Betty received from her Lord.

She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Compton, grandparents and several aunts and uncles.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Apostolic Faith Educational Programs.
