Beverly Jean Boyett, also lovingly known as "Basketball Grandma," of Muldrow, Oklahoma, passed away on February 11, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on December 31, 1945, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, she was the daughter of Julia Millie (Foster) Hutson and Samuel Wesley Hutson. Beverly's life was marked by her devotion to family and community, as well as her deep commitment to service through the Eastern Star.
Beverly was united in marriage to John Boyett on October 30, 1964, at the First Assembly of God Church in Muldrow, Oklahoma. Together, they shared a loving partnership that spanned more than five decades. She and John attended Liberty Assembly of God Church in Liberty, Oklahoma. Beverly was a proud mother to two sons, Little John Boyett and Julie, and Jason Boyett and Janine, all residing in Muldrow, Oklahoma. She cherished her role as a grandmother, and her three grandchildren: Caleb Boyett of Shady Point, Oklahoma, Hannah Jean Boyett of Muldrow, Oklahoma, and John Hayden Boyett of Muldrow, Oklahoma, filled her life with joy and pride.
A dedicated member of the Eastern Star for 39 years, Beverly was initiated on March 17, 1986. Throughout her membership, she held numerous positions, demonstrating her leadership and commitment to the organization. Her roles included serving as Worthy Matron seven times, Chaplain, Electa, Esther, Associate Conductress, Conductress, Associate Matron, and District Deputy on two occasions. She was honored to represent Oklahoma as Grand Representative to the District of Columbia in 1999. In subsequent years, Beverly continued to serve with distinction, being appointed as Grand Esther in 2005 and served with the Dreamweavers, Associate Grand Conductress in 2008 and served with the Guys and Dolls, Grand Conductress in 2009 and served with the Carousels, Associate Grand Matron in 2010 and served with The Spirit of Oklahoma, and ultimately as Worthy Grand Matron in 2011 for Oklahoma’s Crown Jewels.
Beverly took immense pride in her family, which also included her sister, Patricia Gregg of Gans, Oklahoma, and a special niece, Kimberly Dawn Middleton of Fort Smith, Arkansas. She leaves behind numerous other relatives and friends who will remember her warmth, generosity, and unwavering spirit.
Preceding her in death are her parents, Samuel and Julia Hutson; two brothers, Billy Joe Hutson and Samuel Wesley Hutson, Jr.; and one sister, Betty Eads.
A viewing will be held at Agent Mallory Martin Chapel in Muldrow, Oklahoma, on Thursday, February 13, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with the family greeting friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The funeral service for Beverly will take place on Friday, February 14, 2025, at 1:00 PM at the First Assembly of God Church in Muldrow, Oklahoma, followed by burial at Blackjack Cemetery under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.
Active Pallbearers will be Little John Boyett, Jason Boyett, Caleb Boyett, Hannah Boyett, Hayden Boyett, Donald Middleton, Kelly Boyett and Montea Wight III. Honorary Pallbearers will be Hunter Killion, Dustin Moffett, Chad Mayes, Bryant Reeves, Brad Reeves, Dr. Brent Reeves, Trevor Reeves, and members of The Order of the Eastern Star.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bedouin Shrine, Attn: Transportation Fund, P.O. Box 1667, Muskogee, OK 74402.
Beverly Jean Boyett’s life was a testament to love, service, and dedication. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who were fortunate to know her.
