Memorial service for Bill W. Horton, 76 of Sallisaw, Oklahoma will be at 1:00 PM on Friday, August 6, 2021 at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith, Arkansas under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.

He was born on January 17, 1945 in Fort Smith, Arkansas to Dorothy Louise (Fargo) Horton and Wallace Jenkins Horton and passed away on July 31, 2021 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. Mr. Horton was a teacher and coach at Gans School and Liberty School and Superintendent at Moffett School, retiring in 1998. He was a Vietnam Veteran, Commander and Chief of the Muldrow VFW Post 8384, and member of Sequoyah County Democratic Party. He served as an election official for the Cherokee Nation and member of the Cherokee Nation Election Board. The gymnasium at Moffett Schools is named Horton Owens Complex in his honor.

Survivors are:

2 Daughters: Misty Buelow and Michael of Muldrow, OK and Carrie Drennan and J.D. of Orlando, OK;

2 Grandchildren: Shane Spears and Jaxon Kerr;

2 Sisters: Wally Lou Taylor and Leroy of Muldrow, OK and Nita Jo Lewis of Muldrow, OK;

2 Nieces: Kayla Taylor and Stephanie Wade;

2 Nephews: Craig Taylor and Bernice and Lealon Taylor;

several other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Honorary Pallbearers will be James McGehee, Larry Kerr, Paul Hodgens, Donnie Youngblood, Dan George and A.J. Henshaw.
