Charles Lavern Mccormick

Charles LaVern McCormick was born in Talihina, Oklahoma on February 5, 1934 to Charlie Man McCormick and Bessie James McCormick. He lived most of his life in the Buffalo Valley Community where he spent his time playing basketball and skidding logs off the mountain with his Dad. He graduated from Buffalo Valley High School in 1952. He had five siblings: sister Helen, (deceased), brother Leon, wife Louise of Tuskahoma, sister Joye, husband Don of Talihina, brother Euel, wife Eva of Plano, TX, and brother Jim, wife Rena of Pawnee.

Charles had a scholarship to play basketball in college but instead chose to move to Sallisaw in 1952 and began working as a surveyor for the Oklahoma State Department of Transportation. He worked there for 43 years until he retired as the resident engineer in 1995. He loved his job and the people he worked with.

He met his wife Emmalene at a Central basketball game, and after 6 months they were married. They married on June 10, 1953 and were married for 66 years. They enjoyed getting together with family and friends to play cards, go to horse races, and watch OU football games. They had six children: Glenda Madlom of Sallisaw, Michael McCormick, wife Lisa of Fort Gibson, Keith McCormick, wife Pattie (deceased) of Owasso, Janice McCormick of Van Buren, AR, Jolene Lee of Lavaca, AR, and Marcia Shields, husband Tim of DeVille, LA. Charles main enjoyment was his wife, 6 children, 20 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. He loved each and every one of them.

Charles passed this life on January 22, 2020. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 1 p.m. at Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw with Bro. Tim Shields and Bro. Noah McCormick officiating. Burial will follow at Akins Cemetery, northeast of Sallisaw.

Pallbearers are his 11 grandsons, Brandon, Brett, and Bradley McCormick, Logan, Cody, and Noah McCormick, Shawn Lee, and Matthew, Andrew, Benjamin, and Johnathan Shields.

Viewing will be 6 – 8 pm Thursday and 10 AM – 8 PM Friday at Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw, Oklahoma.
