Charles Oliver

February 16, 1931 — February 3, 2022

A graveside service for Charles Oliver, aka “Chief” and “Papa Charles,” 90, of Gore, Oklahoma, and formerly of Sallisaw, Oklahoma, will be held at the Gore Cemetery at 1 P.M., Thursday, February 10, 2022, under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.

Charles Oliver was born on February 16, 1931, in Seminole, Oklahoma. He passed away on Thursday, February 3, 2022, in Sallisaw, due to multiple age-related factors.

Charles was born during the Great Depression, spending his youth in the Blunt community of Oklahoma and enduring the hardships of that generation. He was baptized into Christ early in life in a rural creek near Sallisaw. Charles joined the army around age 22 and was a Korean War Veteran, serving as a member of the B Company of the Sixth Armored Division. He served his country for eight years, learning and mastering heavy equipment operations and mechanics.  Following the war, Charles worked in and out of state for several years. He settled into work at the County Barn in Vian, operating heavy equipment.  Later, he worked for a local oil company, setting up operations and delivering product.

Charles had a quiet, easy-going, good-natured disposition. Marriage and retirement led Charles back to a rural farm life and the work that that entails. He loved being outdoors and found time to enjoy fishing, camping, going to garage sales, and dancing to country music at the Sallisaw VFW. In his later years, he repaired and sold bicycles, watched a lot of Westerns, took pride in a sky-blue GMC pickup, and snuck a few treats to his little lapdog, Peanut.

Charles is survived by his wife of 34 years, Margaret (Morton) Oliver of the home; step-daughters, Valerie Morton, Penney Morton, and Linda and Robert Gourd, all of Gore; his daughters, Vickey and David Wright of Sallisaw, Sherri Abbott of Gans, Sonya and Sam Brown of Sallisaw; his sons, Charles and Cindy Oliver of Sallisaw, Joey and Patsy Oliver of Muldrow, Billy and Julie Oliver of Sallisaw; Kevin Oliver and Seanna White of Roland; two brothers, Donnie Oliver and Thomas Oliver, both of Sallisaw; 34 grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, and loved ones; and a little dog named Peanut.

Charles was preceded in death by parents John Calvin Oliver and Irene (Hutchison) Oliver; sisters Estelle Randolph, Opal Caughman, Maydell Newton, Ora Dell Coffey, Addell Long; brothers Johnny Oliver, Jimmy Oliver, and Ralph Oliver; and step-daughter Kathy Morton.

Pallbearers are Billy Oliver, Joey Oliver, Logan Oliver, Sam Oliver, Andy Hess and Anthony Hess.

Honorary pallbearers are James Shade, Ricky Shade, Michael Shade, Zachary Galli, Madison Gourd, Calvin Sabrowski, and Michael Little.

Viewing will be from 4-8 pm, Tuesday, February 8, and 8a-8pm, Wednesday, February 9, at Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw.
