A private service for Cora (Climer) Speir, 84, is under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.

Cora (Climer) Speir was born on October 10, 1938 in Short, Oklahoma to Leonard and Maggie (Limore) Climer. Cora passed away on May 16, 2023 at the age of 84 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was a graduate of Muldrow High School and Northeastern State University, where she obtained both Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees.

She married her college sweetheart, Bob Speir, in 1958. He preceded her in death on July 16, 1990. The couple has a son, Doug, and a daughter, Kim.

Cora taught public school in Strang, Spavinaw, Cave Springs and South Coffeyville for a combined 35 years. During her teaching years she was active in Delta Kappa Gamma and the American Association of University Women. She always commented that she had definitely made the right career choice.  She loved teaching and had many good memories of former students and teaching experiences.

Cora was of the Christian faith and loved her family dearly. She was an avid reader and also loved to travel, oil paint, fish and sew among other things. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and sisters.

Survivors are son, Doug Speir and his wife, Jo, of Nowata, OK; daughter, Kim Hunt and her husband, Richard, of Owasso, OK; grandchildren, Kara and Kody Kemp and Taylor and Daylie Hunt; great-grandchildren, Hudson and Monty Kemp and sibling due in June, and Henley Hunt and sibling due in July; one sister, Martha Howell of Sallisaw, OK; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one brother, Leroy Climer; and three sisters, Tressie Wilson, Lola Morgan and Betty McClure.
