Funeral Service for Deputy Roger Dale “Papa” Johnson, 59 of Roland, Oklahoma will be at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at Moffett School Gymnasium in Moffett, Oklahoma. Burial will follow at Roland City Cemetery in Roland, Oklahoma under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.

He was born on August 3, 1964 in Fort Smith, Arkansas to Blanch Bernice (Clark) Johnson and Harold James Johnson and passed away on February 1, 2024 in Roland, Oklahoma. He was married to Veronica (Colon) Johnson on July 25, 1997 in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Roger proudly served as a Deputy for Sequoyah County Sheriff Department since July 2009 and was Vice Mayor of the City of Roland. He loved being a law enforcement officer and enjoyed working with the children and families of Moffett Public Schools where he was the School Resource Deputy. He was a member of Bruton Masonic Lodge. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son and brother who placed his family above all others.

Survivors are wife, Veronica of the home; two daughters, Tessa George and Tim of Roland, OK and Ashley Taylor and John of Sallisaw, OK; two grandchildren, Lincoln Taylor and Marya Johnson; and several other grandchildren; mother, Bernice Johnson of Muldrow, OK; sister, Janet Will and John, of Evansville, IN; two brothers, Jimmy Johnson and Nadine of Muldrow, OK and Steve Johnson and Terri of Fort Smith, AR; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father; granddaughter, Alorah Hadlee George; one sister, Loretta Dick and one brother, Tommy Johnson.

Active Pallbearers will be Scott Dobbs, Les Morton, Shawn Hallum, Greg Peters, Brian Rutherford and Eric Helms.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Jimmy Johnson, Steve Johnson, Tim George, Jonathan Taylor, Tim Parrish, Keeton Wheeler and the past and present deputies of the Sequoyah County Sheriff Department and City of Roland Police Department.

Viewing will be 10 am – 8 pm Tuesday at Agent Mallory Martin Chapel in Muldrow where the family will greet 6 – 8 pm.
