Emma (Merrill) Moody Emma Imogene (Merrill) Moody, age 86, died Monday, December 20, 2017, at San Angelo,Texas. She was formerly a resident of Sallisaw, Oklahoma.
A viewing is scheduled for Thursday, December 28, from Noon until 8:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, December 29, 2017 at Agent Mallory Martin Chapel, 123 South Wheeler Street, Sallisaw, Oklahoma 74955.
Emma (called Jean by her friends and family) was born on August 4, 1931 in Gans, Oklahoma. She faithfully served her husband, James, for 66 years until his death in 2015. As a wife and mother of three children, she moved numerous times during her husband’s 20 year military career, eventually retiring in El Paso,Texas. It was there that she worked side by side with her husband in the restaurant business. Upon retirement they moved to Milam, Texas for several years before permanently retiring to Sallisaw, Oklahoma. As a diligent, hard-working team, Emma and her husband achieved the American dream. She was a Shriner Eastern Star, who joined to help support the Shriners’ Hospital for children. She was always the life of the party and was known as a joke teller to all. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. Her humor endeared her caretakers at the Brookdale Assisted Living facility in San Angelo, Texas.
Emma is survived by two daughters, Janis (Moody) Brook and Kathy (Moody) Reaves, and one son James Allen Moody, III. She was the grandmother to six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Bernice Fox and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank all of her health care providers, especially Verla Pounds, her wonderful helper in Sallisaw.
