Funeral services for Freda Jane “Maw Mae” (Gossett) Stites, 73 of Vian, Oklahoma will be at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, September 1, 2020 at Vian Baptist Church in Vian, Oklahoma. Burial will follow at Buffington Cemetery in Sallisaw, Oklahoma under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.

Burial will follow at Buffington Cemetery in Sallisaw, Oklahoma under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.

She was born on September 6, 1946 in Fort Smith, Arkansas to Ethel (Edwards) Gossett and Fred D. Gossett and passed away on August 27, 2020 in Rogers, Arkansas. She was married to Melvin McKinley Stites on August 6, 1976 in Vian, Oklahoma. Mrs. Stites taught Kindergarten at Vian Public Schools for 41 years. She was the Buffington Cemetery Secretary, involved in the Democratic Women’s Association,and a lifelong member of Vian Baptist Church. Jane was a homemaker and rancher, loved horses and cows, enjoyed attending church bible school and singing, but most importantly spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Survivors are:

husband: Melvin of the home;

2 sons: Trent Stites and Marcy of Sallisaw, OK and Brian Stites and Bonnie of Sallisaw, OK;

3 granddaughters: McKinley, Madi and Taite Stites;

2 grandsons: Donovan Baldridge and Erin of Sallisaw, OK and Ty Stites of Sallisaw, OK;

2 sisters: Sharon Murphy and Jim of Vian, OK and Linda Ford and Doug of Vian, OK;

numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends;

very close friend: Cindy Newsom.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Active Pallbearers will be Bill Stites, Roger Stites, Charles Stites, Lee Bennett, David Weaver, Aaron Pruitt and Wally Beaty.

Visitation will be 10 am – 8 pm Monday at Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw.
