Gary Seay

Funeral Service for Gary Seay, 74 of Vian, Oklahoma will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at Vian High School Gymnasium in Vian, Oklahoma. Burial will follow at Rocky Point Cemetery in Sallisaw, Oklahoma under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.

He was born on July 25, 1950 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma to Rhoda Ossie (Sutterfield) Seay and Francis Irving Seay and passed away on July 27, 2024 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Gary attended Vian Schools and graduated in 1968. He married the love of his life, Mary Sue Davis, on February 5, 1971. They enjoyed over 52 years of marriage together. After graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army and was assigned as a heavy truck operator. He attended boot camp in Fort Leonardwood, Mo and was stationed in Germany. After being released from the Army, he attended Connors State College in Warner and finished his college education at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah receiving a degree in education. After graduating from college, he began his teaching career in Vian in 1976. He taught math and social studies for many years and eventually retired after over 27 years of teaching. He spent his entire career teaching at Vian Schools and served on the Vian School Board for many years. He was a lifelong Vian Wolverine. Gary enjoyed the outdoors. He enjoyed deer hunting, duck hunting and fishing with friends and family. He took many of his students hunting and fishing through the years and always enjoyed telling his hunting and fishing stories. He played baseball during his school years. His enjoyment for sports continued into retirement as he could always be found watching his grandson’s ball games. Gary will be remembered for always being ready to share a story and a good laugh. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He will truly be missed by all that knew him.

Survivors are two daughters, Vanessa Lee of Vian, Ok and Valerie Tucker and Damon of Sallisaw, OK; four grandchildren, Braxton and Alyssa Lee of Vian, OK and Cade and Cord Tucker of Sallisaw, OK; one brother, Tom Seay of Sand Springs OK; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; and two brothers, James Seay and Jim Seay.

Active Pallbearers will be Damon Tucker, Scott Seay, Jason Brooks, Nathan Brooks, Jeremy Davis, Thad Harris and Joe Brooks. 

Honorary Pallbearers will be Ed Brockman, Bill Reynolds, Victor Salcedo, Jerry Paul Simon, Joe Paul Simon and Ed Barton. 

Viewing will be Noon - 8 PM Wednesday at Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw, OK where the family will greet 6 - 8 PM.
