Sadly, we just lost the matriarch of our family. She was our energy, and her presence had a way of making everything more fun. Geneva Haney took her first breath in Heaven on Tuesday, July 4, 2017. Her family remained by her side in San Clemente, California.

She was born the third of eight children to Harrison and Mary Elizabeth “Lizzie” Dial on July 1, 1927 at McKey in Oklahoma. Geneva graduated from Sallisaw High School lettering in sports and from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. she became a school teacher, retiring from the profession she dearly loved in 1980.

She fell in love and married Charles “Jeep” Haney in 1946 and they made their first home in Sallisaw before moving their two young daughters to California. They continued to visit family and friends at least twice a year while their daughters were young. Then later, as “empty nesters” they spent their summers in Sallisaw visiting family, friends, and attending “class reunions” until Jeep passed away the summer of ’94 while visiting their beloved Sallisaw.

Geneva was devoted to her family and she was loved by each and everyone of them more than words can say. She is survived by her daughter, Peggy Wintz and her husband Mike of California; her daughter, Carolyn Singer and husband Kirk of North Carolina; her granddaughter, Shannon Wintz Miller and husband Keith of California; her grandson, Jason Wintz and his wife Trinia of Arizona; and no doubt the love of her life, her great grandchildren, Kai and Micah Miller and Seth and Shayla Wintz; her sister, Lois Ozbun and husband Jake of Owasso; brother, Charles Dial and wife Frances of Ft. Smith, AR; and a host of nieces, nephews, sisters in law, and brother in law.
