Funeral Service for Lt. Col. Hiawatha “Wassie” Newton, Ret., 56, of Kingfisher, Oklahoma will be at 1:00 PM on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at Agent Mallory Martin Chapel in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. Burial will follow at Buffington Cemetery in Sallisaw, Oklahoma under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.

He was born on June 15, 1964 in Stockton, California to Brenda Kay (Taylor) Newton and Hiawatha Leroy Newton and passed away on December 14, 2020 in Kingfisher, Oklahoma. He was married to Krysti Diane (Rooks) Newton on September 26, 2013 in Kingfisher, Oklahoma. Lt. Col. Newton was a retired Veteran of the United States Air Force where he was a pilot, flying four different aircraft: C-130, T-6, T-37 and T-38. He was a FAIP pilot who earned the honor of having his first assignment as an instructor pilot. After he retired, he became a civil service pilot instructor. He was well educated as a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy and earning three additional masters degrees. Wassie loved his family, Hot Wheels and Pinball. He played the piano and trumpet, was an artist and a faithful believer in Jesus Christ. He was so very loved and will be greatly missed.

Survivors are:

wife: Krysti of the home;

4 children: Joshua Taylor Newton and Megan of Edmond, OK, Tia Nicole Oerding and Trevor of Yukon, OK, Caitlen Whitehead of Kingfisher, OK and MacKenzie Whitehead of Corpus Christie, TX;

4 grandchildren: Nolan, Eli, Jaxton and Arla;

parents: Hiawatha and Brenda “Babe” Newton of Sallisaw, OK;

1 sister: Cynthia Ann Newton of Sallisaw, OK;

5 precious pups: Cooper, Bonbon, Pip, Olive and Basil;

numerous other relatives and a host of friends.
