It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Maj. Jack Anderson Smith, Jr., USAF, Ret., who departed this life on April 23, 2025, at the age of 88, in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Jack was a beloved husband, brother, uncle, and friend who lived a life dedicated to service and love.

Born on January 21, 1937, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, Jack was the son of Ura Mae (Purvine) Hedgecock and Jack Anderson Smith. On March 15, 1956, he married the love of his life, Willa "Mae" (Fugett) Smith in Muldrow, Oklahoma. Their love story was one for the ages, filled with companionship and support until Mae's passing on November 24, 2024.

Jack honored his country with 20 years of dedicated service in the United States Air Force, retiring at the esteemed rank of Major. His commitment and bravery were celebrated through numerous accolades, including the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Distinguished Presidential Unit Citation, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and several others recognizing his exceptional service and valor. Throughout his military career, Jack and Mae had the opportunity to travel and make memories at various bases around the world, including Germany, Korea, and Japan, bringing them closer together.

Despite his towering presence, Jack was known for his giant heart. He was the type of person who could light up a room with his smile and warmth, always offering kindness and support to everyone around him. He leaves behind his brother, Ron Smith of Marengo, Illinois, sister-in-law Mollie Nichols of Muldrow, Oklahoma, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Jack is preceded in death by his cherished wife, Willa "Mae" (Fugett) Smith, mother, Ura Mae (Purvine) Hedgecock, father, Jack Anderson Smith, and one brother, Donald Smith.

Join us for a funeral service celebrating Jack's remarkable life on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at Noon at Trinity Methodist Church in Muldrow, Oklahoma, followed by burial at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Viewing will be held from 11 AM to Noon at the church prior to the service.

The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to the devoted staff at The Blossoms in Van Buren, Arkansas, especially Lisa, Tanisha, Lynnsey, Cassandra, and Jamie, for their extraordinary care and kindness during Jack's final days.

As we bid farewell to a remarkable man, we reflect on the laughter, love, and wisdom he shared with us. Honorary pallbearers include Tad Rhodes, Ken Barentine, Colby Gibson, Stoney Ogdon, Larry Blake, Larry and Mary Bonrud, and the cherished members of Trinity Methodist Church.

Jack Anderson Smith, Jr. will forever remain in our hearts, a testament to a life well lived.
