He was born on August 28, 1945 in Dewey, Oklahoma to Ethel (Nichols) Sumner and Newton Sumner and passed away on August 25, 2021 in Gore, Oklahoma. He was married to Rose Ellen (Hendrix) Sumner on December 17, 2007 in Benton County, Arkansas. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy, an automotive recycler and of the Pentecostal faith.

Survivors are:

wife: Rose of the home;

1 daughter: Debra Decker of Bartlesville, OK;

1 son: James Sumner, Jr. of Dewey, OK;

step-children: Carl Blaker and Cynthia Blaker, both of Gore, OK;

8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren;

1 sister: Evelyn Revard of Dewey, OK;

2 brothers: Jess Sumner of Ramona, OK and Jerry Sumner of Ochelata, OK;

numerous other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Carolyn J. Sumner; three sisters, Dorothy Baker, Mildred Tayrien and Shirley Swan; and four brothers, Jake, Michael, Richard and Bill Sumner.
