Jerry Don “T-Bird” Thornburg, age 77 years, passed peacefully from this life on June 18, 2022, in his home, in Muldrow, Oklahoma surrounded by his loving family, after bravely battling dementia. He was born on February 1, 1945, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, to Charles Thornburg, Sr. and Glessie (Chance) Thornburg.
Jerry met the love of his life, MaryAnn Whisenant, when they attended school together, later marrying on September 4, 1963 in Poteau, Oklahoma when he was 18 and she was 16. They celebrated 58 years of marriage.
Jerry loved wildlife of all kinds, was always happy, smiling, laughing, singing, and playing pranks. He never met a stranger and worked various jobs throughout his life, retiring after 24 years of employment for the City of Fort Smith, Arkansas.
Jerry had a large loving family all his life and is survived by his:
wife, MaryAnn of the home;
daughter and son-in-law, Angie and Ronnie Fimpel of Muldrow, OK;
son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Deanna Thornburg of Roland, OK;
3 grandchildren, Darin and Courtney Phelan, Kyle Reith and Madison Thornburg, all of Muldrow, OK;
2 great-grandchildren, Kaylei and Camden Phelan of Muldrow, OK;
3 sisters, Alene Walther of Muldrow, OK, Jimmie and Fred Medlock of Roland, OK, and Carolyn Rawlings of Charleston, AR;
3 brothers, David and Beverly Thornburg, Ronnie Thornburg, and Stanley and Charlotte Thornburg, all of Muldrow, OK;
and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Jerry did not want a funeral service. Viewing will be Noon – 8 PM Tuesday at Agent Mallory Martin Chapel in Muldrow, OK where the family will greet 6 – 8 PM.
