Johnny Mac Coleman, affectionately known as "Johnny Red Oak," of Sallisaw, Oklahoma, passed away at the age of 84 on December 7, 2024, in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He born on June 25, 1940, in Talihina, Oklahoma, to Mable Alice (Bell) Coleman and Raymond Clayton Coleman.
Johnny was a devoted husband to Penny (Lambert) Coleman, whom he married on May 28, 1960, in Red Oak, Oklahoma. A skilled welder, pipe fitter, and welding instructor, he was also a cherished member of Landmark Missionary Baptist Church.
An enthusiastic outdoorsman, Johnny had a passion for watching sports, particularly Red Oak basketball and baseball. He was known for his friendly nature and never met a stranger and was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather.
Johnny is survived by his wife, Penny Coleman; two daughters, Vicki Bane and her husband Doug of Sallisaw, OK, and Lisa Garvin and her husband Scot of Muldrow, OK; two sons, John Michael Coleman of Portland, OR, and Tommy Coleman of Sallisaw, OK; eight grandchildren: Grace Ward and her husband Ethan, James Bane and his wife Morgan, Cody Coleman and his wife Brenda Kay, Colton Coleman, Chase Burns, Sarah Jane Coleman, Marcus Garvin, and Jennifer Rogers and her husband Trent; as well as 12 great-grandchildren: Paisley Ward, Caleb Coleman, Cade Coleman, Clark Coleman, Brenlee Coleman, Bailey Coleman, Maddy Coleman, Molly Coleman, Jace Garvin, Oliver Rogers, Avery Rogers, and Everett Rogers. He is also survived by numerous relatives and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Billie Sue Coleman and Patsy Lockhart; and one brother, David A. Coleman.
A memorial service will be held in his honor at Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in Vian, Oklahoma, on Friday, December 13, 2024, at 2:00 PM, under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc. Honorary pallbearers will include Chester Blankenship, Johnny Montgomery, Bill Garner, David Bethel, and Jerry Clapp.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during viewing from 10 AM to 8 PM on Thursday, December 12, at Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw, where the family will be present from 6 PM to 8 PM.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Landmark Missionary Baptist Church for the support of missionaries at P.O. Box 1014, Vian, OK 74962.
