Kent David Trotter

Funeral services for Kent David “Coach” Trotter, 76 of Vian, Oklahoma will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 15, 2020 at Agent Mallory Martin Chapel in Sallisaw, Oklahoma under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc. Live audio of the service will also be broadcast to vehicle radios on 89.1 FM for those who prefer to listen from the parking lot.

He was born to Mary D. and B Trotter on March 22, 1944 at home which was originally a stagecoach stop between Fort Smith and Fort Gibson. He was the youngest of five children. He was a 1962 graduate of Vian High School, received his Bachelors Degree from Northeastern State University and had advanced studies from Missouri Southern in Joplin, Missouri.

Kent married Doris Perry on July 23, 1964 in Vian. His joys in life were his two sons, Perry David and Trent B. He was a devoted husband, Dad and Grandpa. He loved his family and thoroughly enjoyed watching his boys and grandchildren competing in various sporting events. Kent loved horses and competing in calf roping in his younger days and competing in Senior Pro Rodeos later in life. He continued roping until an accident in 2016. His sons carried on the tradition of roping and rodeoing.

Kent started his teaching and coaching career in Ellington, Missouri where he coached girls volleyball and boys basketball. Later, he moved to Anderson, Missouri and coached football and basketball with his former high school coach, Paul Walters. He also coached at the junior high in Noel, Missouri. Moving to Quinton, Oklahoma, he coached girls basketball, football, track, and taught history and driver’s education. In 1976, Coach Trotter was named Coach of the Year in 15B Football. In 2007, the Quinton Alumni Association honored him by naming him Alumni Outstanding Teacher.

In 1979, Kent moved back to Vian to help take care of his parents. He coached football, basketball and boys track. In 1986 – 87 he was named to the Oklahoma Coaches Association Hall of Fame as Region Track Coach of the Year. Kent loved coaching and teaching young people. His 40 years of teaching proved he loved his occupation.

He is survived by:

his wife of 56 years: Doris;

2 sons: Perry David Trotter and Kathy of Akins community, OK and Trent B Trotter and Charlotte of Vian, OK;

6 grandchildren: Taryn Lynn Trotter, Dalton Perry Trotter and Chancie, Sarah Kate Trotter, Tee Jay Trotter, Tuff Allen Trotter and Ally Taite Trotter;

2 great grandchildren: KeLee Lynn Curson and JoLee Paisley Curson;

1 sister in law: Wanda Perry Smith of Keene, TX;

15 nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 4 siblings: Leroy, Donnie, Jerry and Carol.

Active Pallbearers will be Taryn Lynn Trotter, Dalton Perry Trotter, Sarah Kate Trotter, Tee Jay Trotter, Tuff Allen Trotter and Ally Taite Trotter.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Bob Bloomer, Raymond Yahola, Kenneth Brunson, Gerald Ellis, Rex Brooks, T.W. Houston and Joe Paul Simon.

Viewing will be 10 am – 8 pm Friday at Agent Mallory Martin Chapel in Sallisaw, OK where the family will greet 6 – 8 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Vian FFA c/o Vian Public Schools.
