Maralene Clark Hamett (Hindman)

September 21, 1934 — February 1, 2025

Funeral Service for Maralene Clark Hamett (Hindman), 90, will be at 1:00 PM on Thursday, February 6, 2025 at Agent Mallory Martin Chapel in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. Burial will follow at Brushy Cemetery in Sallisaw, Oklahoma under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.

She was born to Allen and Virgie Hindman on September 21, 1934, in the Brushy Community of Sallisaw, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully after a full life. She was welcomed into this world by her parents and her older brother, Quinton Hindman (deceased), and later was joined by younger siblings: Charles Hindman (deceased), Julia Hill (deceased), Jeane Fowler, Zelma Arnold, and Ricky Hindman (deceased).

Maralene grew up in the Binger/Minco community, where she graduated from Binger High School in 1953. She began her career as a telephone operator for AT&T, quickly advancing to the roles of trainer and supervisor. In 1955, she married Navy sailor Roy T. Hamett, and together they had two children: Randy Hamett and Sandra Thrash (Hamett).

In 1973, Maralene suffered a cerebral hemorrhage, which led to her medical retirement in 1974 after 20 years of service. Following her divorce, she returned to Sallisaw, Oklahoma, where she became an active member of her local Baptist church and enjoyed participating in activities at the Senior Center.

A lover of literature, Maralene spent many hours reading, especially books by Louis L'Amour, and she amassed an impressive collection over the years. She lived independently in her home until entering nursing care in 2021.

Maralene is survived by her son, Randy Hamett of North Carolina; daughter, Sandra Thrash of Texas; sisters, Jeane Fowler of Florida and Zelma Arnold of Oklahoma; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of extended family and friends who will miss her deeply.

Her memory will forever be cherished by all who knew her.

Visitation will be 11 AM - Noon Thursday before the service.
