She was born on August 19, 1925 in Akins, Oklahoma to George F. Sallee and Georgia Fine Sallee and passed away on July 22, 2023 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. She graduated from Sallisaw High School in 1943 and went on to obtain her Bachelor and Master Degrees in Education from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Margie married Harold Gene Walters on March 7, 1947 and from that union came the blessing of three children. Margie was very passionate about her faith, family, friends, and being an educator. Her teaching career of 38 years began at Central High School and eventually moved over to Sallisaw High School, finishing up at the Indian Capital Area Vocational-Technical School for her last 13 years teaching Business classes. She was one of the original teachers when Indian Capital Area Vo-Tech opened a branch campus in Sallisaw in the fall of 1972. During her 13 years at the school, she was very instrumental in helping the school grow and expand to a modern complex located on Houser Boulevard.

Margie was of the Baptist faith and a member of Eastside Baptist Church in Sallisaw. She loved her Sunday School class and was sad when she could no longer physically attend.
