Mark A Whitmer

August 5, 1954 — August 9, 2017

Mark Alan Whitmer was born August 5, 1954 in Fort Smith, AR to Glenn G. and Velma (Fears) Whitmer of Muldrow. Mark married Sherry Carter on December 21, 1974. He passed this life on August 9, 2017 in Fort Smith, AR at the age of 63.

Mark began work with his dad in a building supply company driving a forklift as a young teenager. Later, he worked with his father in a window business that when his dad retired, became Mark’s Window Store. He and his wife Sherry continued the window business for a number of years. During that time, Mark worked as a contractor for Crawford Sebastian Community Development Council, Inc., which led him to become a Master Carpenter, then Weatherization Director, and finally, Executive Director of CSCDC. While he was Weatherization Director in 2005, he was honored by the U.S. Department of Energy Weatherization Assistance Program with a National Recognition Award. Mark was a man of humility, and every honor bestowed upon him he was sure to share with his staff. Mark was instrumental in implementing the Community Dental Clinic and was tireless in the work of remodeling the new, improved building that CSCDC now shares with the River Valley Regional Food Bank. He loved helping people, and was honored that his career revolved around improving the lives of others.

Mark recently retired and looked forward to being able to do things he had not had time to do. He always enjoyed being in the great outdoors, and for many years had fun hunting and bass fishing.

Mark is survived by his wife, Sherry, a brother, Daryl, and three nephews of the Tulsa area, his godson Jeremy Eichling of Fort Smith, numerous cousins and friends.
