Funeral Service for Michael Ray McKinney, 76 of Sallisaw, Oklahoma will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 8, 2023 at Immanuel Baptist Church in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. Burial will follow at Buffington Cemetery in Sallisaw, Oklahoma under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.
He was born on October 24, 1946 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma to Alpha Lee (Taylor) McKinney and Wayne Fredrick McKinney and passed away on September 5, 2023 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. He was married to Linda Carol (Brooks) McKinney on July 31, 1965. Mike was a surveyor on the construction of Kerr Lock and Dam for five years. He later retired as a transportation equipment operator for Oklahoma Department of Transportation after 19 plus years. Mike was a minister of the Free Holiness Faith for 33 years. He enjoyed trapping, hunting, fishing and was an avid outdoorsman. He handcrafted buckskin moccasins and jackets. He was a modern day frontiersman. He was a gardener and planted one nearly every year. His friends and family often enjoyed the fruits of his labor. Mike loved his prairie home and lived a simple life and focused on the things most important to him, such as living for the Lord, loving his family and serving others. He will be greatly missed.
Survivors are wife, Linda of the home; three sons, Todd McKinney and Brandi of Sallisaw, OK, Tim McKinney and Kellie of Sallisaw, OK and Mike McKinney and Chelsea of Sallisaw, OK; eight grandchildren, Mika McKinney, Meghan Garrett and Austin, Wes McKinney and Ashley, Madyson Barr and Chris, Justice Williams, Journee Colquitt and Tommy Roberts, III, Zane McKinney and Brixsten McKinney; six great-grandchildren, Wyatt McKinney, Kovax Barr, Stetson Garrett, Taylor McKinney, Scotlyn Garrett and Mason McKinney; two sisters, Deborah Matthews of Sallisaw, OK and Dianne Rhoades and Eddy of Sallisaw, OK; two brothers, Robert McKinney and Myrna of Claremore, OK and Mark McKinney and Cindy of Owasso, OK; and several other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Active Pallbearers will be Todd McKinney, Tim McKinney, Mikey McKinney, Wes McKinney, Justice Williams and Zane McKinney.
Honorary Pallbearers will be employees of Oklahoma Department of Transportation and his Free Holiness Brotherhood.
Viewing will be 10 am – 8 pm Thursday at Agent Mallory Martin Chapel in Sallisaw where the family will greet 6 – 8 pm.
