Mozelle (Choate) Calhoun

Funeral service for Mozelle (Choate) Calhoun, 85 of Sallisaw, Oklahoma will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at Immanuel Baptist Church in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. Burial will follow at Sallisaw City Cemetery in Sallisaw, Oklahoma under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.

Mozelle was born April 12, 1937 in Marble City, Oklahoma, the daughter of James “Jim” Choate and Flora (Harvey) Choate. She was married to J.W. “Jay” Calhoun on February 18, 1955 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on January 2, 2011 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. Mrs. Calhoun passed this life on February 14, 2023 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma at the age of 85.

She leaves to mourn her passing two daughters, Donna Rhodes of Sallisaw, OK and Susan Morrison and Casey of Sallisaw, OK; two sons, Phillip Calhoun and Sonnet of Anchorage, AK and Lance Calhoun and Brandi of Sallisaw, OK; daughter-in-law, Sheryl Calhoun of Sallisaw, OK; 18 Grandchildren, Kelli Smith, Annie Barlow, Jay Heath Calhoun, Jarrod Calhoun, Jeston Griffith, Michael Calhoun, Jeffrey Calhoun, Hunter Jay Calhoun, Ian “Fish” Calhoun, Erin Vernhagen, Aleks Smith, Sydne Adams, Eli Fleener, Chadasty O’Neal, Susan Ashley Beller, Jay Warren Calhoun II, Christopher Roger and Heather Calhoun; 31 great-grandchildren, Drake, Allye, Zoee, Slayte, David, Lexxi, Maddie, Heath, Clark, Lucy, Thomas, David, Esther, Chloe, Jasmine, Case, Thomas, Gerald, Phillip Jacob, Anthony, Layla, Brennan, Killian, Gabe, Josh, Brandon, Chase, Adysen, Ella, Liam, Barrett; one sister, Linda Campbell of Marble City, OK; three sisters-in-law, Avis Choate of Marble City, OK, Alta Calhoun and Fern Kinsey of Sallisaw, OK; one brother-in-law, Ralph Calhoun and Diane of Clinton, AR; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; son, James Craig Calhoun; son-in-law, Scott Rhodes; her parents; five brothers, Buck, Bill, Pete, Raymond, and Jackie Choate; and two sisters, Freda Cupp and Bernice Bush.

Active pallbearers will be her nephews, Eric Bush, Kelly Choate, Watie Choate, Leslie Choate, James Choate, and Andy Choate.

Honorary pallbearers will be Pat Borland and Robbie Capps of Anchorage, AK.

Viewing will be 2 – 8 PM Sunday and 10 AM – 8 PM Monday at Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw, OK.
