Services for Nelda Sharlene Matthews Brown, 70 of Gans, Oklahoma will be at 1 pm on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at Agent Mallory Martin Chapel in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. Burial will follow at Fleetwood Cemetery in Sallisaw, Oklahoma under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.

She was born on February 19, 1948 in Drake Prairie, Sallisaw, Oklahoma to Vera Mae (Steele) Matthews and Troy Golden Matthews and passed away on November 17, 2018 in Gans, Oklahoma. She was married to Dewayne Brown on October 23, 1965 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. She was a homemaker, Baptist, and earned a Bachelors Degree in Home Economics and Business.

husband of 53 years and 25 days: Dewayne of the home

2 daughters and sons in law: Angela Brown-Newby and Stacy of Ft. Smith, AR and Lisa Brown Sweeney and David of Sallisaw, OK

1 son and daughter in law: Michael and Heather Brown of Perkins, OK

3 grandchildren: Brianne Brown of Ripley, OK, Jenna Brown of Perkins, OK and Addison Brown of Perkins, OK

2 sisters: Kay Wilcox of Ft. Smith, AR and Darlene Slattery of Muskogee, OK

1 brother and sister in law: Sam and Alta Matthews of Sallisaw, OK

numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends

She was preceded in death by her parents, Troy and Vera Matthews; 5 sisters, Freda Maxine McGowan, Phyllis Ann Matthews, Thelma Jean Ware, Norma Sheppard and Patsy Coatney; and 5 brothers, Jerry Dean Matthews, Raymond McGowan, Jr., Carl Matthews, Troy Matthews and James Matthews

Active Pallbearers will be Rod Slattery, J.D. Atkerson, Sherman McGowan, John Matthews, Richard Matthews, Hank Coatney and Justin Matthews.

Viewing will be Tuesday noon – 8 pm at Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw.
The family will greet Tuesday from 6 – 8 pm at the funeral home.
