Patsy Ruth (Passmore) Mayner

April 28, 1940 — November 10, 2022

Patsy Ruth Mayner (Passmore) 82, passed from this life on November 10, 2022 in Annapolis, MD, where she lost her battle with Alzheimer’s. Some people only walk this earth for a short time. Their departure reminds us that angels are watching over us. She has rejoined her heavenly family and gained her wings.

Patsy was born on April 28, 1940, in New Ark, Arkansas to Thomas & Fay Passmore. Patsy was the eldest of four children.

Mill Valley, California is where she met the love of her life, Joe Mayner. Joe was hired by Patsy’s father to work on bridges and dams in California. Even though Patsy and Joe were both born in Arkansas, they found each other in California. After Patsy graduated Mount Tamalpais High School, in Mill Valley, California in 1958 they were married. From that point they began their journey to make something for their family. They both worked hard, and most years carried the load of two jobs. They were blessed to have celebrated 52 years of marriage.

Patsy was hired by Southwestern Bell in 1960 as a telephone operator and continued with them for 35 years of service and retired as a Sales Rep in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Joe had encouraged her to retire so that they could begin to travel together. Their first trip was to Valdez, Alaska for the summer. They continued their love for traveling for 15 years until Joe passed in 2011.

Patsy loved to cook for her family, mainly for her precious grandkids. From making biscuits and gravy every morning to her chocolate pie and cookies, everything she prepared was something special. No grandkid could ever get up in the middle of the night without her hearing them and offering them some kind of dessert. She knew that was the real reason why they were up.

Patsy’s infectious ways of teaching her grandkids board games was priceless. We all knew there were the rules of the games, and then there were her adjusted rules! Everyone was always ready to play no matter what the time or occasion. If she started to get the games out everyone knew to come to the table and find their place.

We always loved when Patsy would dance the jitterbug and sing “These Boots were made for walking”. Whether she sang “You are My Sunshine” or other songs that we did not know, we all were raised hearing her wonderful voice.

The random things that she will be remembered for are her picking up pecans, always making sure her house was spotless, making sure she always had matching earrings and necklace on, making sure all family members received a birthday card with a check enclosed, and how could we forget her weekly hair appointments.

Patsy was a devout Christian. She often spoke of how fortunate she was that her neighbor took her to church when she was 12 years old and how knowing Jesus in her life led her in the right direction.

Patsy felt most blessed for her two children. She always made sure to tell both how lucky she and Joe were to be given such precious gifts from God. Patsy would say “How is my favorite son/daughter doing, I love you so much.”

Patsy is survived by her two children, Stephen Mayner, and his wife Alicia, of Huntingtown, MD and Cheryl Mayner-Smith, and her husband, Lynn, of Harrison, AR; 6 grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Sarah, Logan, Brittany, Lane and Rebekah; 4 great grandchildren: Eli, Noah, Lukas, and Aiden; 1 sister: Irene Passmore; and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on November 19, 2022 at Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home in Muldrow, OK. Visitation will be at 11am and service will begin at 12pm. The graveside service will be at Lee’s Chapel Cemetery in Muldrow, OK.
