In the middle of a long, hot summer, in 1933, Peggy Jean Jordan was born on July 20 to John and Ruby (Noel) Jordan in Redland, Oklahoma. Times were hard and trying back then. There was no electricity or conveniences to make life easy. Her daddy was a farmer and a rancher. She grew up knowing the discipline and rewards of hard work. She came from a large loving family that was full of encouragement and perseverance. When she grew up and became a young woman she met Bert Richards working at a local grocery store. She always said he was the sweetest man she ever met. She has said that throughout their 71 years of marriage. The two became inseparable and married February 25, 1953 just a week before he shipped out for Korea. When he left she drove an old Ford across the country to California so she could be there when he came back. Every time she stopped for gasoline she had to put a quart of oil in the car, but that didn't deter her. After the war he came home and they lived in California for 10 years and started a family. They later returned to Redland, Oklahoma to be near their families. She had various jobs throughout her life including working at the Boston Store, Sequoyah County Extension Service, bus driver for Gans School, co-owner of the Pie Parlor in Muldrow, Oklahoma, and was a real estate agent for Century 21. She also served on the Gans School Board for many years. She passed away on September 23, 2024 in Fort Smith, Arkansas at the age of 91. She was greatly loved by her entire family and will be sadly missed.
