Funeral Service for Rev. Charles “Sonny” Sparkman, 88, of Muldrow, Oklahoma will be at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at First Baptist Church in Muldrow, Oklahoma. Burial will follow at Gans Cemetery in Gans, Oklahoma under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.
He was born on August 2, 1934 in Redland, Oklahoma to Emily (Palmer) Sparkman and William Cleveland Sparkman and passed away on April 28, 2023 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was married to Frankie Jo Sparkman on June 25, 1954 in Muldrow, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on February 16, 2023.
Rev. Sparkman worked at Riverside for many years, where he was plant supervisor. He was a Deacon, the Sunday School Teacher of the Young Married Class and part of the Outreach Program at First Baptist Church and the pastor of Gans Bible Church. He enjoyed going on Pheasant trips, bird hunting and working his cows. He was a great basketball shooter and was a fan of the Sooners, Thunder and Cardinals. Sonny enjoyed attending his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids ballgames. He also loved to garden.
Survivors are one daughter, Lisa Fox and husband, Jonathan, of Van Buren, AR; two sons, Charles “Mitch” Sparkman and wife, Tammy, of Muldrow, OK and Mark Sparkman and wife, Amy, of Van Buren, AR; son-in-law, Lea Lessley of Sallisaw, OK; sister-in-law, Rose Sparkman of Muldrow, OK; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and several other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frankie Jo (Woodward) Sparkman; one daughter, Leigh Ann Lessley; three sisters, Melba Daniel, Ella Weaver and Grace Jones; and five brothers, Carl Sparkman, “Ham” Marcel Sparkman, Jack Sparkman, Joe Sparkman and Kenneth Sparkman.
Active Pallbearers will be Beau Sparkman, Daniel Pixley, Tyler Miller, Kevin McGee, Danny Webb, Jack Sparkman, Gabe Miller, Dusty Baker and Aiden Sparkman.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Bob Hill, Bill Sagely, Dwayne Springwater, Larry Merrill, Pat O’Bryan, Shannon Allen, Muldrow First Baptist Deacons, Dwayne Roberts, Preacher Thomas Ireland and David Key.
Viewing will be 2 – 8 PM Sunday, 10 AM – 8 PM Monday and 9 AM – 12:30 PM Tuesday at Agent Mallory Martin Chapel in Muldrow, OK where the family will greet 6 – 8 PM Monday.
