Cremation Services for Richard Lee Akers, 79, of Sallisaw, Oklahoma will be under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.

He was born on June 23, 1940 in Shelbyville, Michigan to Mildred (Fleser) Bastian and Jesse Akers and passed away on August 2, 2019 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. He married Robin Lee (Barker) Akers on June 29, 1974 in Greenville, Michigan. He had a Master’s Degree in Education. Mr. Akers was a former athletic director, coach, assistant principal and an Insurance Agent for State Farm.

Survivors are:

wife: Robin of the home;

1 daughter: Kara Akers Mayfield and Scott of Sallisaw, OK;

1 son: Christopher Richard Akers of Sallisaw, OK;

3 grandchildren: Cole Mayfield, Cash Mayfield and Kamryn Mayfield;

1 sister: Sandra Hoyt of Martin, MI;

numerous other relatives and friends

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister: Francis Martin and 1 brother: Lewis Robert Akers.
