Funeral Service for Robert Earl Suttle, 90, formerly of Sallisaw, Oklahoma will be at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at Agent Mallory Martin Chapel in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. Burial will follow at Sallisaw City Cemetery in Sallisaw, Oklahoma under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.

Robert Earl Suttle was born on May 3, 1933, in Louisville, Mississippi to the parents of John Earl Suttle and Sarah Eunice Hunt Suttle. He had three older brothers and three older sisters.

After graduating from high school Robert briefly attended Mississippi State University before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps in 1953. 

After serving 4 years in the Marine Corps, Robert enlisted in the United States Army. 

Robert and Sue were married on June 12th, 1964, in Sallisaw, Oklahoma.

Robert was stationed in Germany starting in 1965. Robert and Sue became parents to their only child, Robbin, while stationed in Germany in 1966. 

Robert faithfully served for a total of 20 years 6 months and 5 days before being honorably discharged on August 31st, 1974, at the rank of First Sergeant. During his time in the military, Robert was awarded the National Defense Service Medal w/ Oak Leaf Cluster; Korean Service Medal; United Nations Service Medal; Good Conduct Medal Clasp, Bronze, 5 Loops; Joint Service Commendation Medal; and Expert (Rifle). 

During his service in the Vietnam war, Robert was selected as an advisor the 655th Vietnamese Battalion where he worked directly with three Vietnamese Commanding Officers setting up frontline communication outposts. Robert was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Silver Service Star; Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; and Vietnamese Signal Badge.

After retiring from the military Robert and Sue relocated to Sallisaw, Oklahoma where Robert worked briefly for the St. Clair Lime Company and then went to work at the City of Sallisaw water plant where he retired as Plant Manager.  

Robert was a loyal member of the Sallisaw Church of Christ where he served as the treasurer for approximately 20 years.  Robert loved the Lord and his church.  

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, John Earl Suttle and Sarah Eunice Hunt Suttle; and his six brothers and sisters, Doris A. Bankhead, Edward H. Suttle, Helen Suttle Duncan, Thomas Suttle, Sarah A. Suttle Cousins and William K. Suttle. 

Robert is survived by Carolyn Sue Suttle, his wife of 49 years; his daughter, Robbin Elizabeth Suttle Dill and son-in-law Matt Dill of Plano, Texas; and his granddaughter, Emily Dill, also of Plano, Texas; and many nephews and nieces on both sides of the family.

Active Pallbearers will be Kurt Stephens, Keith Darcy, Matt Dill, Cana Hall, Don Garrett and Larry Spears. 

Honorary Pallbearers will be Bill Ford, Johnnie Ford and Curtis Stephens. 

Viewing will be 10 AM - 8 PM Friday at Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw, OK where the family will greet 6 - 8 PM.
