Rodney Geary Butts

August 24, 1951 — April 18, 2025

Muldrow, Oklahoma

Rodney Geary Butts was born on August 24, 1951, in Northville, Michigan, to Jerome Lovette and Mary Louise Butts. He entered into rest on April 18, 2025, in Muldrow, Oklahoma.

Throughout his life, Rodney lived in various states across the United States, ultimately spending much of his adult years in Florida and Oklahoma. He was a dedicated father to three wonderful children: Julie, Brian, and Brandy, who cherished the time spent with him.

In the 1990s, Rodney embarked on a journey that showcased his remarkable skills and work ethic by starting a small welding business from his home in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. His passion and talent quickly transformed this venture into a successful custom ornamental iron company known as Iron Décor.

In 2011, he made the heartfelt decision to relocate to Muldrow, Oklahoma, to be closer to Eagle Lighthouse Tabernacle, where he had been a member since 2002. Rodney poured his heart into the church community, particularly engaging with the youth and young adults. His competitive spirit shone through during board and yard games, where he was known to be a formidable opponent.

Outside of his church activities, Rodney enjoyed the company of his close friends, Brandon and Mary Cabe, and their five children. He loved riding his motorcycle and four-wheeler, and relished his visits to Broken Arrow to eat at Oklahoma Joe's BBQ with his daughter Brandy, where he would always order a sliced brisket sandwich and BBQ beans.

Rodney was a devout man of God, an outstanding father, and his kindness, love, and generosity affected everyone who crossed his path.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerome Lovette and Mary Louise (Bagley) Butts, along with his siblings: Jerome Butts, Kenneth Butts, and Karen Pruitt.

Rodney is survived by his children, Julie Butts, Brian Butts, and Brandy Butts; his grandchildren, Austin Butts, Brandon Butts, and Michaela Crews; his step-children, Barry Crowell and Cynthia Bouakadakis; step-grandchildren, Hayley, Hollie, and Andy; his siblings, Ronnie Butts, John Butts, Tim Butts, and Dennette Pruitt; along with a host of relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.

A memorial service to honor his life will be held at 10:00 AM on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at Eagle Lighthouse Tabernacle in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He will be laid to rest in Louisiana beside his parents and family. Cremation is under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.
