Funeral service for Roy Henderson, 96 of Muldrow, Oklahoma will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at Agent Mallory Martin Chapel in Muldrow, Oklahoma. Burial will follow at Blackjack Cemetery in Muldrow, Oklahoma under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.

He was born on November 27, 1925 in Barling, Arkansas to Mamie and Roy Henderson and passed away on November 18, 2022 in Talihina, Oklahoma.

Roy lived in Greenwood until 1941, when his family bought a farm in Muldrow. He then served in the United States Navy as a corpsman from 1943-1946, earning five World War II battle stars. His time in the Navy included landings with Marines in five Pacific island invasions: Saipan, Luzon, the Philippines, Guam, and Okinawa.

Following the war, Roy returned home to Muldrow. He married Joyce Asbill in 1947, and the two had one daughter, Alice. He later married Barbara Collier in 1951, having one son, Steve.

Roy worked as a salesman for Swift Company in the 1950s and later as a truck driver with Texaco. Then, starting in 1966, he was a truck driver for Acme Brick before retiring in 1989.

Roy was an avid supporter of the St. Louis Cardinals and Dallas Cowboys, as well as the Muldrow Bulldogs and Arkansas Razorbacks. He was of Presbyterian faith and attended Methodist churches later in life.

He loved Wednesday morning church breakfasts with his friends and was a regular customer at Miss Anna’s in Fort Smith.

Survivors are son, Steve Henderson and daughter-in-law Kim Henderson; daughter, Alice Morrow; grandson, Sam Henderson; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barbara Henderson; sister, Claudia Henderson, and brother, Herman Henderson.

Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers include John Newman, Jimmy Hyles, Gene Herdison, Gary Reynolds, Bruce Vick, David Korvick, Fred Snipes, and Gimo Berry.

Viewing will be 2 – 8 PM Monday at Agent Mallory Martin Chapel in Muldrow, OK where the family will greet 6 – 8 PM.
