Sandra Kay (Remer) Barnes

May 12, 1952 — August 21, 2021

Cremation service for Sandra Kay Barnes, 69 of Vian, Oklahoma is under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.

She was born on May 12, 1952 in Carlisle community, Oklahoma to Madeline (Ingle) Remer and Ed Remer and passed away on August 21, 2021 in Vian, Oklahoma. Sandra was born and raised at Carlisle, Oklahoma with a house full of siblings. She went to elementary and junior high at Carlisle School and finished school at Vian High. She raised her own kids with love and taught them to love others and not judge anyone regardless of who they are, what they looked like, or where they came from. She gladly fed and housed any other kids who came to her house, and wasn’t afraid to show them tough love when they needed it. Sandra was a hairdresser most of her adult life, but the majority of her labors was helping others in her community and church. She was a big-hearted giver, and because of people helping her in younger days, she spent decades returning the favor and paying it forward. She loved her family and treasured her dear friends, often telling stories and keeping the memories alive of those she loved who had gone on before her. When she recently recognized for her years of service to the people of the Vian area and Sequoyah County, she hesitated receiving the Favorite Daughter Award because she said all those things were between her and God and the people she helped and didn’t want any recognition. She was much like her own mother and spoke with honesty. She wasn’t afraid to “tell it like it is”, and was not one to stay silent if she believed something needed to be said. She had a loud voice and used it being the biggest fan and supporter of all her kids in their school sports and activities. Although Sandra experienced many ups and downs in life, she chose to live on the positive side, encouraging people whenever she could, giving advice and heartfelt counsel, and filling her home and relationships with laughter. She was hardheaded, stubborn, impossible to argue with, but would give someone her last dollar if they needed it. During her last and final battle in life, the only complaint her kids ever heard was that her eyesight was failing and she couldn’t read her Bible daily. She constantly encouraged her kids to follow the Lord, and showed that example by her service in her own church. Sandra was a rock to her children and one of the strongest individuals physically, mentally, and spiritually, never meeting a stranger, rarely leaving a conversation without optimism, and probably didn’t know how many lives she touched with inspiration.
