Velma Jean (Haskins) Morton

Graveside Service for Velma Jean Morton, 95 of Vian, Oklahoma will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at Round Mountain Cemetery in Gore, Oklahoma under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.

She was born on April 30, 1927 in Vian, Oklahoma to Eulaila Octavia (Stornes) Haskins and Schuyler Haskins and passed away on June 17, 2022 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. She was married to Don Morton on November 20, 1946 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. Velma was saved at the age of 12 at Big Lake. She loved the Lord and had great faith in Him. She loved traveling. After her husband retired they traveled coast to coast, from Florida to California. She also enjoyed cooking. The boys still want food made the same way Momma made it. Velma liked to sew and would make the kids clothes when they were little. She also made blankets and would do embroidery on them. She kept her home in clean order. When she couldn’t clean anymore, she still made sure that her home was spic and span.

Survivors are:

husband: Don of the home;

2 daughters: Judy Kay Henderson and Ron of Wagoner, OK and Terry Jean Morton of Ft. Smith, AR;

3 sons: Don R. Morton and Theresa of Muldrow, OK, Michael Schuyler Morton of Ft. Smith, AR and Larry Dean Morton and Diane of Sallisaw, OK;

8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren;

2 sisters: Verla Dean Cantwell of Muldrow, OK and Peggy Montgomery of Gore, OK;

several nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 grandson: Brian Morton, 1 brother: Boyd Haskins, 3 sisters: Mary Nell Cotner, Phyllis Holt and Ruie Duke.

Visitation will be 1 – 8 pm Tuesday at Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw.
