Services for Verla Dolores Smith, 83 of Mannford, Oklahoma will be at 1:00 pm on Friday, April 13, 2018 at Vian Freewill Baptist Church in Vian, Oklahoma. Burial will follow at Box Cemetery in Vian, Oklahoma under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.
She was born on January 25, 1935 in Lookeba, Oklahoma to Christie Estaline Foust and Bert Woodrome and passed away on April 10, 2018 in Mannford, Oklahoma. She was married to Rev. Vernon Louis Smith on September 4, 1951 in Wichita, Kansas. He preceded her in death on January 31, 2015. Verla worked for a newspaper company, was a spot welder, and a carhop in Wichita, Kansas. She ran a restaurant for one year, worked at Kentucky Fried Chicken, and worked at a garment factory. As a minister’s wife, she was a Sunday School Teacher, a Vacation Bible School Teacher, a Camp Ground Teacher, cooked at the FreeWill Baptist Campground for 2 years and sang in the church choir. Verla moved to Mannford, Oklahoma to live with her daughter, Shirley and son-in-law after her health declined where she attended Mannford Assembly of God Church.

Survivors are:

3 daughters and sons-in-law: Rhonda and Fred Jones of Bristow, OK, Shirley and Thomas Butler of Mannford, OK and Sheila and Johnny Ashley of Bristow, OK;

grandchildren: Lisa Bishop and husband, Mark of Calera, OK, Denisa Newton and husband, Bruce of Bristow, OK, Dana Butts of Bristow, OK, Dollie Maness and husband, Eric of Decaturville, TN and Dene’ Jones of Irvine, CA, Shari Wilder and husband, Lonnie of Glenpool, OK, Renae Williams and husband, Jeff of Sand Springs, OK, Stephanie Fain of Tulsa, OK and Shawn Ashley and wife, Jennifer of Bixby, OK;

27 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren;

3 sisters and 2 brothers-in-law: Janelle and Lawrence Jung of Sterling, OK, Treva and Ernest Adams of Duncan, OK and Janie Graham of Wichita, KS;

2 brothers: Nick Woodrome of Little Rock, AR and Jerry Woodrome of Wichita, KS;

Verla was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years: Vernon Smith; her parents: Bert and Estaline Woodrome, 4 brothers: Deward Woodrome, Charles Wade Woodrome, Wayne Woodrome and Boyd Woodrome; and 2 sisters: Vera Woodrome and Twila Woodrome

Active pallbearers will be grandsons-in-law: Mark Bishop, Bruce Newton, Lonnie Wilder and Jeff Williams.

Viewing will be 2 – 8 pm Thursday at Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw, OK where the family will greet 6 – 8 pm.
