Funeral Service for Vernon E. Barnes, 87, of Muldrow, Oklahoma will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 4, 2023 at Agent Mallory Martin Chapel in Muldrow, Oklahoma. Burial will follow at Blackjack Cemetery in Muldrow, Oklahoma under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.

He was born on October 5, 1936 in Gans, Oklahoma to Josie (Taylor) Barnes and Joe Filmore Barnes and passed away on November 27, 2023 in Muldrow, Oklahoma. He was married to Mary Ann (Riggs) Barnes on Aug 17, 1956 in Spiro, Oklahoma. Vernon was a retired Police Officer from the Roland Police Department and Gans Police Department.

The family would like to say thank you to all of his home health care teams and a special thank you to Amber, Shawnda, and Jennifer with Hospice.

Survivors are wife, Mary Ann Barnes of the home; three daughters, Karen Harkreader of Muldrow, OK, Tina Barnes of Roland, OK and Dianna Barnes of Roland, OK; two sons, Jimmy Barnes and Melba of Bokoshe, OK and Kenneth Barnes and Sue of Roland, OK; four granddaughters, Amber Steele and Travis, Kayla Brunk and Austin, Kendra Duty and Jarrad, and Amanda Spencer and Tyler; seven great-grandchildren, Blaine and Ethan Steele, Kalea and Jalea Duty, Hub and Adeline Brunk and Gatlin Spencer; one sister, Dovie Hopkins of Roland, OK; two brothers, Alton Barnes and Barbara of Muldrow, OK and Herbert Barnes and Gail of Muldrow, OK; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three siblings, Leon Barnes, Ernest Barnes and Edith McGlothlin; and two baby sisters.

Active Pallbearers will be Travis Steele, Austin Brunk, Jarrad Duty, Tyler Spencer, Blaine Steele, Robert Woods and Tony Lewis.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Members of Bruton Lodge #30.

Viewing will be 2 – 8 PM Sunday at Agent Mallory Martin Chapel in Muldrow, Oklahoma where the family will greet 3 – 5 PM.
