Wanda M. Adams

August 24, 1928 — November 28, 2018

Wanda Mae Hinnen Stout Adams, 90, a forty year resident of Lake Tenkiller, passed away on November 28, 2018.

She was born on August 24, 1928, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Waunita and Harry Hinnen. Wanda attended school in Oklahoma City and Cordell, graduating from Cordell High School in May of 1946.

On March 26, 1948, she married Boyd Webb Stout in El Reno, Oklahoma. They moved to Augusta, Kansas and then Beaumont, Texas, before finally settling in Altus, Oklahoma where Boyd and his brother took over the family cotton farm.

Boyd and Wanda had two daughters, Mary Katherine and Deborah Kay. Wanda realized a life long dream in 1960 when she started taking college classes at Altus Jr. College to pursue a career in teaching. She graduated from Southwestern State College in June 1969. Sadly, just two months after her graduation, Boyd passed away.

Wanda was very active in the Altus community where she worked with the Girl Scouts and was an instructor trainer for the Red Cross, running the city swim program from 1962 to 1971. She was an elementary school teacher in Altus before moving to Oklahoma City where she taught in Moore.

In 1975, she married Clifford (Bud) Adams, and in 1978, they built their home on Lake Tenkiller. During her forty years in the Tenkiller community she was very active in the Blackgum Volunteer Fire Department and taught elementary school in Sallisaw. Wanda later taught adult education and retired in 2017 after nearly 50 years of teaching.

She enjoyed spending time working in her yard, playing on the lake, and spending her summers with all of her grandchildren.

Wanda was preceded in death by both Boyd and Bud as well as her daughter, Kathy.

She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Stout Taylor, stepdaughter Beckie Adams Lear, and stepsons Jim Adams and Sam Adams. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw, OK on Thursday, December 6th from 6-8pm. Services will be held at 11:00am, Friday, December 7th at the Blackgum First Baptist Church with Pastor Tim Hare officiating. Interment will follow in the Fort Gibson National Cemetery at 2:00pm.
