William Lawrence Mcnutt

July 2, 1937 — March 11, 2018

A celebration of the life of William Lawrence McNutt, 80, will be held on St. Patrick’s Day, Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 2 pm at the Agent Mallory Martin Chapel in Sallisaw. Bill was very proud of his Irish Scottish heritage.

Bill had a true zest for enjoying people and life to the fullest. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He loved to paint and studied Western Art with the same passion he played golf, fished, hunted, and showed his National Field Trial Brittany Spaniels.

You never saw a man that loved his work and the people he worked with more than he, whether in the horse racing industry or in the oil industry. Bill was the Division Land Manager for Mid-Continent (Pogo Producing Company) over Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas Panhandle, Kansas, and Southeast Colorado. He also was District Manager for Jerry Chambers Oil Productions. From 1986 – 1989, Bill worked for the Jockey Club as the Manager of Registration for Thoroughbreds in the US, Canada, and Puerto Rico. He also taught Race Track Management for OSU Extension in Oklahoma City, OK, In 1992, Bill became a Steward for the Oklahoma Horse Racing Commission and continued until his retirement. He served as Chief Steward at Blue Ribbon Downs, Will Rogers Downs, and Fair Meadows. After his retirement, he couldn’t stay away from the racetrack and worked as the Clocker at the Blue Ribbon Training Track in Sallisaw.

Bill was born in Elgin, Oklahoma to Dorothy and Gerdis (Jeff) McNutt. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Joe McNutt; and sister, Alletta Vaughn.

Bill is survived by his wife of 28 years, Susan Hoisington McNutt of the home; his son, William L. McNutt II of Pagosa Springs, Co; granddaughter, Kelsie Ann McNutt of Oklahoma City, OK; grandson, Kody Lawrence McNutt and his wife, Shelby and their two children, William Ryan and Adeline Rose McNutt, of Ft. Hood, TX; and nieces of Oklahoma City; a host of friends and Wiggles and Wags. He will be sorely missed by all.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cherokee Humane Society in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, Blazes Tribute Horse Rescue, Edmond, OK or any animal rescue of your choice.

Services and cremation will be conducted by Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw.
